Elgin police investigating attack on teen posted to social media

Elgin police are investigating an attack on teenager that was recorded and posted on social media.

Police were called to Advocate Sherman Hospital around 4 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an injured 13-year-old girl, according to a news release. The girl's injuries were not life-threatening.

The girl told police she was involved in a fight on the 200 block of Henry Street with a group of unknown people, and that a 15-year-old girl was also injured but did not require medical attention.

A video of the fight posted on social media shows more than 10 people yelling and several smaller fights breaking out. At one point two girls are shown being hit and kicked in the head while several others stand nearby either yelling, participating or recording the fight on their phones. At the end of the video, one girl appears to be passed out on the sidewalk. The fight appears to be mostly between girls, while boys are heard yelling in the background as well.

Elgin police said they are aware of the videos that have been posted of the fight on social media.
