Possible human skull found in abandoned shed near Round Lake

Lake County authorities are investigating the discovery of possible human skull Saturday in an abandoned structure near Round Lake.

A caretaker of the site in the 33100 block of North Fairfield Drive found the remains while removing items from a shed on the property, according to Lake County Sheriff's police.

Sheriff's detectives responded to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the abandoned shed, officials said. The Lake County Coroner's Office also responded and collected the remains, all of which appear to be extremely aged, according to the sheriff's office.

The coroner will have the remains examined by a forensic pathologist, forensic odontologist, and anthropologist, to determine if they are human, officials said, and detectives continue to investigate how the items got into the shed.
