While a family member and friend made a quick stop at the neighborhood Walgreens, an 88-year-old woman waited in the back seat of the family car. The doors unlocked and engine running, the car was the perfect target for a 14-year-old Park Ridge boy - who authorities say is responsible for stealing four other cars in Park Ridge in a little more than a month. Cook County lost the most population of any county in the nation, according to new census estimates released yesterday for the period of July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015. The drop of 10,488 people is the county's first decline since 2007 and comes in a year when most metro areas in the U.S. gained population. Full story.

Injured hockey player Matt Olson is expected to return to his home near Minnesota's Twin Cities to continue his rehab in the next week or two, his family said yesterday. Olson, a 20-year-old junior league defenseman with the Chicago Cougars, suffered a severe spinal cord injury Feb. 21 during a game at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. Full story.

Rolling Meadows City Manager Barry Krumstock yesterday announced that Elk Grove Village Deputy Police Chief John A. Nowacki will become Rolling Meadows' new police chief on Monday, April 11. He succeeds former Rolling Meadows Police Chief Dave Scanlan, who retired on March 11. Full story.

All lanes are closed on southbound I-355 between Army Trail Road and St. Charles Road due to the accident. There are delays on eastbound I-90 as well, from several accidents.
