Mob action charges after fight in Naperville

Five people were charged with mob action after an altercation that injured a 19-year-old woman working at a Naperville store, authorities said Tuesday.

The victim suffered cuts on her lip, forehead and right ear after she was punched and had her hair pulled by one of the people facing charges, whom police identified as 29-year-old Lakeyta Wagner of Aurora.

Wagner along with three other women and a man are accused of driving to a store on the 300 block of Route 59 on March 18 with the intent to fight the employee, Naperville police Cmdr. Jason Arres said.

"This was not a random act," Arres said.

Also facing a misdemeanor charge of mob action are Shakyra Wagner, 19, of Aurora; Unique Wagner, 20, of Batavia; Kenney Williams, 20, of Aurora; and Kaylai Whitty, 18, of Aurora.

"The suspects showed up at the retail establishment due to an issue that one of them had with the victim in the recent past," Arres said. "After the battery took place, they realized the victim wasn't the person they were looking for."

When officers arrived, Arres said the suspects had fled. Officers soon found them about a mile and a half away near Fairway Drive and Inland Circle in Naperville.

Lakeyta Wagner is accused of obstructing identification "when she intentionally gave a false name to avoid being arrested on three outstanding warrants," Arres said. Police said she was taken to DuPage County jail, but she was not listed Tuesday as an inmate.

Unique Wagner also is facing a charge of obstructing identification, police said. She and Shakyra Wagner, Williams and Whitty posted bail after being processed by Naperville police.

The store employee who was injured did not to go the hospital for treatment, Arres said.
