Huntley has grown into thriving village
One Huntley.
As recently as 1999, Huntley was considered a small town known for an ice cream shop and a Turkey Testicle Festival. Now, in 2016, it has become a premier place to live in Illinois. How does this happen in such a relatively short period of time? The answer is what I like to call #onehuntley.
What is #onehuntley? When you think about what makes a place more desirable to live and work in over another, you think of education, health care, crime and opportunity.
Our school district that serves more than 9,600 students is considered one of the best in Illinois. It has top notch administration, faculty and staff, cutting-edge facilities and technology, and a strategic plan to continue improvement over the next 5-10 years.
Also, the Huntley Area Public Library is a resource for all residences that combines online services and books to help children and seniors with ongoing lifelong learning.
Is Huntley a safe community? Our Huntley Police Department and Huntley Fire Department are accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies. They have amazing relationships with the other departments in the village and the citizens of Huntley. Huntley always leads the way when it comes to safety in the area.
The Huntley Park District is one of the top rated park districts in the country. It is a beautiful place for residents to gather and has many opportunities for everyone to participate.
The village of Huntley is responsible for how beautiful the village looks and for the economic development of Huntley. One of its latest endeavors is the beautification of its downtown. Another huge undertaking is the development and opening of the new Centegra Hospital, which is slated to open this summer.
The Huntley Chamber of Commerce promotes a prosperous business environment that enhances the quality of life for all in the business community. In concert with the village of Huntley, the Huntley Chamber of Commerce is constantly looking to grow and expand the area businesses.
And, of course, there is Huntley Community Radio with a mission of "Keeping Huntley Informed and Connected."
Just a week ago, there was a ribbon cutting at Sal's Pizza Place in downtown Huntley. There was a member of each of the organizations listed above to welcome this new business into town. For a place with 25,000 residents, it was an inspiring event that I believe is the perfect example of #onehuntley.
