Police investigating shooting inside Elgin home

A man sustained a life-threatening wound in an Elgin shooting Sunday morning, police said.

According to a news release from the Elgin Police Department, the victim may have been involved in an altercation before he was shot inside a home on the 700 block of Wing Street.

Authorities arrived at the scene about 6:50 a.m., and the victim was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, police said.

Elgin's Major Investigation Division and Gang Crimes Unit are investigating.

Police ask that anyone with information to contact the Elgin Police Department at (847) 289-2600 or provide anonymous tips at the crime line at (847) 695-4195.

Individuals also may text 847911 and include ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, followed by the message or tip.
