Palatine Jaycees shell out 3,500 Easter eggs

Kids, to become a serious Easter egg hunter, there are a few key preparations.

Wear running shoes and practice patience. When the big day comes, you can't be peeking inside an egg and sampling candy, while your competitors stuff their baskets.

And above all else, do not pause to take a selfie with the Easter bunny.

Participants in the Palatine Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt understood as much, when they set off sprinting Sunday in search of eggs sprinkled across a grassy part of Towne Square.

The Jaycees shelled out, pun intended, 3,500 Easter eggs filled with prizes and treats for kids ages 9 and younger.

Ellie Wilson, soon to be 2, got her share of the plastic eggs.

"She got three, so that's pretty good," said her mom Cheryl, of Palatine. "It was her first real egg hunt."
