Waukegan man charged in 'crash and grab' burglary

A 28-year-year-old Waukegan man has been charged in a "crash and grab" burglary of a convenience store, police said Thursday.

Marshall Devalle, of the 600 block of North Avenue, was charged with burglary and criminal damage to property for the March 9 burglary of the Marathon gas station at 901 Glen Flora Avenue in Waukegan, police said in a news release.

Devalle was apprehended early Wednesday by Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police after a pursuit on Route 41. Officers said they spotted Devalle driving northon Route 41 and began chasing him. He later crashed the stolen vehicle he was driving into a ditch, police said.

Authorities say the gas station robbery took place around 3:30 a.m. March 9, in which four men rammed a pickup truck through the front of the store and took cigarettes, liquor and cash.

Three other suspects spotted on the store's surveillance video were still at large as of Thursday night, according to Waukegan police Cmdr. Joe Florip.

Police said Devalle is also a suspect in the theft of a pizzeria truck from Chicago on March 12. The truck was later found on the 600 block of North Avenue in Waukegan.

At the time of his arrest, Devalle was also wanted on an state parole violation warrant.

He is currently being held in the Lake County jail on $75,000 bail. He is due in court March 22.
