Waukegan police seek 4 in 'crash and grab' at gas station

Waukegan police are looking for four men who rammed a pickup truck through the front of the Marathon gas station at 901 Glen Flora Avenue in Waukegan and took cigarettes, liquor and cash before evading police early Wednesday morning.

According to a news release, police responded to the station's burglary alarm around 3:30 a.m., but by that time the robbers had left. According to the surveillance video released by police, the men took around 90 seconds to complete the "crash and grab."

About an hour later, the pickup truck was spotted by Lake Forest police. The officers determined the vehicle was stolen out of Chicago. The driver refused to stop and evaded officers.

The vehicle was then spotted by Highland Park officers, who also unsuccessfully tried to stop the vehicle.

The unoccupied truck was later recovered in the morning by Chicago police.

Waukegan police Cmdr. Joe Florip said authorities hope someone will recognize the thieves.

"The mere fact that we have four suspects helps," Florip said. "Generally that means you're going to have four people telling the story of what happened."
