Buffalo Grove park cleans up after vandalism

The Buffalo Grove Park District had to spend time this week cleaning up a large amount of vandalism at one of its parks.

Several parts of Mike Rylko Community Park between Deerfield Parkway, North Buffalo Grove Road and McHenry Road were hit by graffiti last weekend, according to a police report.

Vandals tagged the Splash-n-Play, baseball fields, skate park and pedestrian/bike path sometime between 8 a.m. Feb. 27 and midnight Feb. 28, including markings on handicapped parking signs, no smoking signs, garbage cans, recycling bins, light poles, restroom doors, drinking fountains, benches, public telephones and skate board ramps.

"It was all over the park unfortunately," said Executive Director Ryan Risinger. It took several workers about five hours on Monday to clean up the park, he said.

No one has been arrested on charges of the damage, which police estimated at about $1,000.
