Hoffman Estates High stages 'Oklahoma!'

You "Cain"t Say No" to watching Hoffman Estates High School's performance of "Oklahoma!"

It's a beautiful sight to see the cast and crew practice to put on their interpretation of the musical, which was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

"Being a part of a musical is such an amazing experience," says Grace Squires, who plays the part of Laurey, a cheery farm girl.

The exciting experience isn't the only thing Squires took out from this, though.

"'Oklahoma!' not only helped me meet lots of people who share the same passion as me, but it also made me realize the growing problems with America while it was still being carved out to the country it is today."

"Oklahoma!" touches on the harsh feelings between farmers and cowboys during the youth of America, making the musical both entertaining and educational.

The cast includes Matt Sears, a senior who plays the lead role Curly.

"I always look forward to performing what our cast has worked so hard on, but I have a feeling that this year is going to be special. Everyone fits their roles well," Sears said.

Director Jason Stevens added, "We deeply hope that our audience will have just as an outstanding of a time watching the show as we did creating it."

Hoffman Estates High School presents "Oklahoma!" at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5, and Thursday, March 10, through Saturday, March 12, at the school, 1100 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates. Tickets are $5 general admission March 10; all other shows $10 with assigned seating.
