Chicago Blackhawks' Toews racking up the Twitter followers

Jonathan Toews has been on Twitter for all of three days and the Chicago Blackhawks' captain already has in excess of 90,000 followers.

One of the first tweets to Toews came from none other than teammate and noted antagonist Andrew Shaw, who welcomed him to the Internet age by saying:

"Omg it happened welcome @jonathantoews to Twitter and the 21st century"

Of course, it didn't take long for Toews to fire back …

"pipe down ya little puke, it's game day get focused"

Shaw had a good laugh about it Tuesday at Johnny's Icehouse West after the Hawks practiced in advance of their game Thursday vs. Nashville at the United Center.

"I had to throw a little dagger out there and he came right back at me," Shaw said. "It's stuff the fans love to see and probably expect a lot more of it."

Shaw has been on Twitter for almost five years and has 278,000 followers. He figures Toews will pass him in about a week.

Toews, by the way, sent Shaw another tweet after the team's loss in Minnesota on Sunday, telling him he was just kidding and "u know I love u @shawz15er."

Injury update:

Coach Joel Quenneville said Marian Hossa, out with a lower-body injury, should start skating at the end of this week. Quenneville added it's "tough to say" if Hossa could return for the start of the team's tree-game road trip next Wednesday in Detroit.

Patrick Kane and Niklas Hjalmarsson did not practice Tuesday. Quenneville said neither is injured and both will play Thursday against the Predators.

Keith Relief:

The concert held at Joe's Bar on Weed St. on Monday night raised over $100,000 for Keith Relief and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. It's the fourth concert that Duncan Keith has thrown in support of the charities.

Country music act Dustin Lynch performed. All of Keith's teammates were at the concert, according to the Hawks.

"We're a family. Everyone in this locker room loves each other. We're gonna do what we can to help each other," Andrew Shaw said. "It's a great cause. (The event is) probably one of the favorites around the locker room."

Rough ratings:

The Blackhawks and Wild drew a 1.2 overnight rating for their outdoor game in Minnesota on Sunday, according to numbers released by NBC. It's the lowest rating for any of the NHL's outdoor games.

He said it:

"Great play. Good patience."

Joel Quenneville on Troy Murray's successful penalty shot in the Alumni Game at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday.
