Fire causes $150,000 in damage to Schaumburg duplex
A Schaumburg duplex unit was left uninhabitable Sunday after a fire caused $150,000 in damage, fire officials said.
The fire started about 2 p.m. in a unit of a two-story townhouse on Old Kings Court, said Martin Sand, shift commander at the Schaumburg Fire Department.
The fire began in the basement of the unit and a preliminary investigation determined the cause to be electrical, he said.
"The fire destroyed the contents in the basement, and the upper floors (had) heavy smoke damage," Sand added.
The other three units in the building were unaffected, aside from some light smoke.
Residents were home at the time but were able to evacuate safely, Sand said. Nobody was injured.
The fire remains under investigation.
