Buffalo Grove police ID fire victim

Buffalo Grove Police have identified a middle-aged woman who died after apparently setting herself on fire Friday afternoon at a gas station.

Police are not releasing her name "in an effort to allow her family time to make appropriate notifications and arrangements," according to a news release.

Police earlier Saturday sought help identifying the woman and released two photos of her recovered from surveillance cameras at the Circle K gas station, 50 W. Lake-Cook Road.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department was called about 4:15 p.m. and when the battalion chief arrived at 4:18 p.m., he found the woman was badly burned. Paramedics took the woman to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where she later died.

Eye witness accounts and physical evidence indicate the woman intentionally set herself on fire, police said in a news release. The Cook County medical examiner's office has tentatively scheduled an autopsy for Sunday.
