We need state budget, not another holiday

It's being reported that Illinois state legislators Andre Thapedi, Thaddeus Jones, Rita Mayfield and Arthur Turner are sponsoring a bill to make Barack Obama's birthday a state holiday.

In light of the current state of our budget, don't they have better things to be talking about?

The state isn't paying many of its bills, forcing cuts in services and businesses to work without being paid. This action shows how out of touch our elected officials are in regards of how their actions are affecting the people on the street.

They should be talking about how to solve the budget impasse, not birthdays!

We already have a federal holiday, Presidents Day, that acknowledges birthdays, including former Illinois presidents such as Lincoln, Grant and Reagan.

Let's be happy to add Obama to that list and get to work on a budget instead.
