Des Plaines man dies from cold

A 53-year-old Des Plaines man has died from hypothermia and exposure to cold, authorities said.

Robert P. Curtin, of the 800 block of south 3rd Avenue, was pronounced dead 9:21 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy done Friday also listed chronic alcoholism and hypertensive heart disease as secondary causes in Curtin's death.

Since Nov. 3, at least 13 people have died from cold-related causes in Cook County, the medical examiner's office said.

Des Plaines police did not immediately return a call Saturday.
