Elgin police investigating shooting of teenager

Elgin police are investigating a shooting late Monday night that left a 17-year-old boy with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to a news release Tuesday from the Elgin Police Department.

Police arrived to the 1000 block of Villa Street at 11:50 p.m. after the boy was shot several times. The victim told police he was in the area with friends and was shot by an unknown person, according to the release.

Detectives from Elgin Police Department's Gang Crimes Unit are conducting the investigation.
