Man critically injured in Palatine crash

A 28-year-old man is in critical condition with injuries suffered in an early morning crash Monday in Palatine, authorities said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred about 1:53 a.m. near the intersection of Dundee Road and Northwest Highway, according to the Palatine Fire Department.

Palatine police Cmdr. Craig Lesselyoung said it appears the man was driving a Honda Civic on Dundee Road when the car left the roadway and struck a traffic light pole on the west side of the Route 14 overpass.

Rescue crews called to the scene arrived to find the driver trapped inside the vehicle. He was extricated from the wreckage at 2:10 a.m. and taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries, according to the fire department.

Lesselyoung said the man was listed in critical but stable condition later Monday.

The crash remains under investigation.
