Naperville man charged in convenience store robbery
A 23-year-old Naperville man is accused of robbing a convenience store in that town Friday night, authorities said.
Joseph Andalina, of 1369 Ivy Lane, is facing felony charges of one count of robbery, one count of aggravated fleeing and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, according to a news release.
Around 7:19 p.m. Friday, Andalina entered the Corner Pantry at 1801 Wehrli Road. He walked around and when a customer went to the register to pay for her items, Andolina walked behind the counter and reached for the cash register, police said.
Andalina shoved the clerk at the counter who tried to stop him and grabbed $180 from the cash register. He then left the store, got into his car and fled, police said.
A few hours later, Andalina's car was spotted exiting Interstate 88. When police pulled him over for a traffic stop, Andalina drove away and after a brief chase, he crashed his car into another car, police said.
Officers took Andalina into custody. Police said they also found heroin on him.
Andalina's bond was set Saturday at $100,000, of which he must post 10 percent for bail. He is scheduled to appear for a hearing March 7 before Judge Liam Brennan.
