King reminder was timely, valuable

It was ironic that the day Ed Smetana's letter appeared complaining that some candidates and some in the media referred to the Martin Luther King Jr. as "Dr." but not "Rev." was the very same day the Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations held a symposium with "Celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King" on the front page of the event program.

The ICDHR is an outgrowth of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference for which Dr. King was the first president. The chairman of the ICDHR, the Rev. Clyde Brooks, was a friend and colleague of Dr. King's. Nevertheless, it's good that Mr. Smetana reminded us that Dr. King was also the Rev. King.
