Former head of Northwest Central Dispatch appointed state 911 czar

Cindy Barbera-Brelle, former executive director of Arlington Heights-based Northwest Central Dispatch, has been appointed by Gov. Bruce Rauner as the first statewide 911 administrator.

Barbera-Brelle will oversee the transition of the state's 911 services from the Illinois Commerce Commission to the Illinois State Police, according to a news release.

"In addition, she will supervise the consolidation of redundant 911 systems while expanding 911 service to every county," the news release said.

Barbera-Brelle, who lives in Mount Prospect, announced her retirement from Northwest Central Dispatch in July after nearly 14 years leading the Northwest Central Dispatch System, which serves 11 communities in northwest Cook County.
