Late-night fire closes Palatine restaurant indefinitely

A Palatine restaurant is closed indefinitely after a rooftop fire caused damage to the building late Monday night, authorities said.

Palatine firefighters called at 11:48 p.m. Monday to the Fortune Kookie Restaurant, 570 N. Smith St., arrived to find flames on the roof and fire extending into the interior of the building, officials said. Firefighters attacked the fire from the exterior, as well inside the restaurant's front lobby and bar area, authorities said.

The fire was declared under control at 12:20 a.m., according to the fire department.

The restaurant was closed at the time of the fire and no victims were found during search of the building. No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire, officials said.

Damage estimates were not available Tuesday, and the fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators.

The Palatine Health Department was asked to evaluate food and kitchen damage, and the restaurant will be closed indefinitely until building repairs are complete, the fire department said.

The fire was fought by 24 firefighters, and Palatine police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
