Clinton should support leave act
Currently in Congress there is a bill that would establish a trust fund allowing new mothers to receive up to 12 weeks of paid family leave.
This bill sets up a fund under the Social Security Administration that would pay out 66 percent of one's normal salary over 12 weeks to allow women the time off they need after having a child.
Hillary Clinton refuses to support the bill. She frequently calls for paid family leave, yet her inability to support this act comes from the fact that it has a slight tax increase.
Yet, for many others and me, this tax increase, which for the average employee comes to about $1.61 a week, is well worth it. As a matter of fact, at most, it will cost employees in the top tax bracket $4.36 cents per week.
This bill would be a step in the right direction to make sure that women truly receive the care they need after having a child. In fact, The New York Times says that "The biggest objection to paid leave has been from business owners who say they do not want to pay for it, which Mrs. Clinton said her plan would avoid," which goes to show Hillary's denial about the FAMILY Act stems from her ties to business.
Maybe she should put working mothers and 80 percent of Americans who support paid leave ahead of her donors when considering this legislation.
