'Straight from the Tap' offers craft beers

The nationwide craft beer sensation just keeps growing, and Arrowhead Golf Club has crafted an event that just keeps growing, too.

Straight from the Tap will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Arrowhead Golf Club's intimate ballroom, 26W151 Butterfield Road, Wheaton.

Straight from the Tap is a premier VIP tasting of limited edition, early-release, never-released, experimental, and rare craft beers from 13 breweries local and distant.

Craft beer lovers may be familiar with Two Brothers Brewing Co., Revolution Brewing, 51st Ward Brewing Company, Solemn Oath Brewery and Dry City Brew Works.

They may not be as familiar with North Coast Brewing Co. (Fort Bragg, California), Cademon Brewing (Genoa,), or Firestone Walker Brewing Company (Paso Robles, California).

Brian Whitkanack, craft beer connoisseur and director of restaurant and banquet operations at Arrowhead, hand-selects every beer for Straight from the Tap.

"What makes this event fun and unique is that we've gathered 13 mostly local - and some newer - breweries and asked them to leave their staples at home and instead bring some of the different things they have been playing around with at their brewery," he said.

"They'll be featuring new beers, vintage beers, and limited release beers. Great breweries, great beer, and great venue - what more do you need?"

New this year: every ticket comes with a chance at winning a raffle prize.

All raffle proceeds benefit the future phases of the Sensory Garden Playground, located off Naperville Road in Danada's South Area and dedicated to allowing children of all abilities to play side-by-side.

Phase I of the playground is complete, including fragrance and sound gardens and the Pony Stables Playground for 2- to 5-year-olds, but fundraising for Phases II through IV is ongoing.

Only 300 tickets will be sold to Straight from the Tap, and participants must be 21 or older. General admission is $60 a person and includes access to 32 two-ounce beer samples, food, entertainment, service fees and tax. Designated driver tickets are $20 and include event access, food, entertainment, service fees and tax.
