Sheriff: Man, 19, dies after likely suffering from opioid overdose

Despite using an opioid overdose reversal drug, Lake County sheriff's officials say they couldn't save the life of a 19-year-old man found unresponsive Saturday.

About 10:45 p.m., deputies arrived at a home in the 21200 block of West Danny Lane in unincorporated Lake Villa to find the unresponsive man in his bedroom, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

After determining the victim was "likely suffering from an opioid overdose," officials said, deputies gave him a dose of Naloxone before administering CPR.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Sheriff's Detective Chris Covelli said the Lake County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy Tuesday.

According to the release, all Lake County sheriff's deputies are equipped with Naloxone, and all personnel are trained to administer it.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident.
