Why the bias against New Yorkers?

I have lived in Illinois for 36 years. I am a native New Yorker, and you can ask everyone I know, that that is an important part of who I am. When I heard about the controversy Mr. Cruz and Mr. Trump (I can't even believe I am writing his name) have about the remarks concerning New York values I was astounded.

Why is everyone so upset? It seems to me that disparaging Mexicans and Muslims is OK among the candidates but say something about the "values" of New Yorkers and everyone, including the media, is up in arms.

Let's remember that not all immigrants are terriortists and that not all New Yorkers believe they are entitled, just some of us. (Only kidding).
