Felon with weapon arrested, West Chicago police say
An arrest warrant served Friday at a home in an area where suspected criminal activity has occurred resulted in a man's arrest on a weapons charge, West Chicago police said.
Salvador Perez, 28, was seized in his home on the 400 block of East Blair Street, according to police. He was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon.
Police said the search of the home Friday yielded a .40-caliber handgun and ammunition. They said the search warrant was obtained from a DuPage County judge as part of a monthlong investigation into suspected criminal activity in vicinity of the home, including a Dec. 20 shooting.
West Chicago Police Chief Michael Uplegger praised the probe in a statement.
"This investigation was the result of tenacity and excellent police work on the part of all of our officers," Uplegger said. "I am proud of the work they did in taking a criminal off the street and helping a neighborhood regain the safety we all deserve".
Perez was taken to DuPage County jail. He faces two to 10 years in prison if convicted of the weapons charge.
