Pedestrian killed on railroad track in Elgin
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Metra train in Elgin Thursday afternoon, an official said.
The pedestrian, whose gender is unknown, was struck about 1:30 p.m. between Kimball and Chicago streets, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
The train had left Elgin's Big Timber station at 1:22 p.m. and was headed to Chicago.
One of two tracks at that location remained open, with trains running normally since about 2 p.m., Miller said. The next inbound train left at 2:22 p.m.
