It takes hard work not to hate

Christmas Eve service at my church was great. I came out with my spirit filled with love and joy. I saw a police car parked in the dark watching over our flock and was so glad they were there. We had received threats because our congregation openly accepts LGBT. Shameful.

My next feelings were pretty human. I got angry at the few that made the threats, but I had to remind myself not to let that spill over on to the entire group. The few bad people out there are often used to hate the entire group, a few bad Muslims, a few bad Christians, a few bad ____, well, you fill in the blank. A few bad cops?

You get the idea. My Christmas angel was sitting in their squad car in the dark waiting and praying that nothing bad would happen so they could get home to be in the arms of their family. The real work of Christmas has just begun. It takes work not to hate and hard work it is. May peace prevail this year on earth.
