Group wants balance in locker room decision

A recent letter to the Herald called out our group by name and contained numerous harmful distortions. Its publication demands a response.

D211 Parents for Privacy is a diverse group of caring, compassionate moms and dads who seek a solution to the school locker room access issue that respects and protects all students, including those with unique requests.

The letter writer, Ms. Cavill, claims we "see transgender individuals as less human." That is an outrageous and baseless attack that couldn't be further from the truth.

We truly care about all students. However, it has become clear to us the perspective of caring for all is, sadly, not shared by all.

Many children are being marginalized and neglected in the process of providing accommodations. Their parents are as well.

We understand and empathize with gender-dysphoric children who wish not to be in the locker room of their biological sex. The district's so-called "solution" of creating new changing spaces within the locker room of the opposite sex violates reasonable boundaries to separate these intimate, vulnerable spaces by anatomy.

There are legitimate concerns and numerous real consequences with providing access to the locker room of the opposite biological sex, especially for minor children. We encourage Ms. Cavill to do more research.

An accommodation of a safe, completely private room for students who request to not be in the locker room of their biological sex is a solution that would actually protect all minor children involved.

All children face battles. They are all of equal importance. We have willingly put ourselves at the front lines in order to provide some balance to the situation.

Balance, common sense, and respect for all have been in very short supply in District 211, and other districts as well.
