Take balanced approach on gun control

As I sat last week and watched President Obama present his case for increased background checks and other gun control measures, I began to think of the fragility of life.

One life taken as a result of gun violence is too many.

Though I understand that many may disagree and present differing opinions in regards to our president's actions, I for one do not have a problem with increased background checks.

However, I feel that this is another instance of grabbing a perceived problem and creating legislation that attempts to fix it.

Though it will never be mentioned in the news, have we ever stopped and considered the effects of alcohol on our society? Just because it is accepted as a cultural norm, doesn't make the effect on society any less.

Because "everyone does it" or because it would be harmful to someone politically doesn't lessen the impact upon society.

So, let's take a balanced stand on all of these issues and fight for life - not just when it is expedient politically.
