St. Charles library offers 'Amazing Armenia: A Peace Corps Journey'

Peace Corps volunteer and St. Charles resident Michael Dixon will present "Amazing Armenia: A Peace Corps Journey" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, in the Carnegie Community Room at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Dixon will share his experiences during his recent assignment in the former Soviet Republic of Armenia. While focusing on the beauty of Armenia, Dixon will discuss a comparison with his service in Ukraine.

After maintaining a practice in architecture with a focus on historic preservation for 32 years in St. Charles, Dixon joined the United States Peace Corps to help Ukraine with the recovery of its culture and customs lost during Soviet times.

After his three years in Ukraine ending in an abrupt evacuation due to a revolution and war with Russian-backed separatists, he accepted a six-month assignment in the former Soviet Republic of Armenia.

During the month of January, Dixon's photos "Peace Corps Journeys: Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, India, Nepal and Armenia" are on display in the Mezzanine Art Gallery of the library.

The public is welcome and the program is free to attend.
