Walking/biking path planned on Rand Road in Des Plaines

Plans are moving ahead for a 2.4-mile pedestrian/bicycle path along Rand Road from Central Road to Elk Boulevard in Des Plaines.

Construction of the 10-foot path within the existing right of way is a few years away, but this week, Des Plaines aldermen approved a contract with Civiltech Engineering to begin design work.

The state is paying $1.2 million for the design and construction of the path, and the city is paying $320,000.

When complete, the path will help connect gaps in the planned 36-mile Evanston-Elgin Regional Bikeway, officials said.
