Man shot in the arm in Elgin

A man was struck in the head with a handgun and then shot Thursday evening in Elgin after being confronted by a stranger.

Elgin police were called about 8:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Dupage Street for a reported shooting. Officers found a 55-year-old man who said he was walking in the area when an unknown man approached him, struck him with the gun and then shot him in the arm. The victim was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
