Curious about the upcoming Deer Grove restoration project?

Learn more about the five-year habitat improvement and restoration project at the Deer Grove West Forest Preserve near Palatine, at a Saturday, Jan. 9 open house. The Forest Preserves of Cook County and Openlands say nonnative brush and trees will be taken out, allowing more sunlight to reach the ground to help native plants grow. The restoration, to begin this winter, will also remove invasive and aggressive native species. To learn more about the project, the open house will run 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Camp Reinberg Dining Hall, 1801 N. Quentin Road in Palatine.
