Schaumburg police stepping up holiday traffic enforcement

Schaumburg police will have a stepped-up enforcement period to stop traffic law violations from Dec. 18 to Jan. 3, which will be funded by an Illinois Department of Transportation Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program Grant.

Officers working the grant details are hired back on an overtime basis so this does not interfere with normal police operations.

The various grant campaigns will include different types of enforcement, such as seat belt enforcement zones, roving/saturation DUI patrol, seatbelt saturation patrol and DUI/safety checkpoints.

Officers will use a zero-tolerance approach to anyone disobeying the state seat belt/child restraint and DUI laws.
