Palatine High scholarship honors donors' parents

The Palatine High School Pirate Boosters organization has established the Charlotte M. and Robert C. Donahue Millennium Scholarship Fund with a $10,000 donation in the couple's memory from their sons, Andy and Patric.

The fund will award a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving Palatine High School graduating senior every year for the next decade.

Charlotte and Robert were longtime volunteers for both Palatine High School and the Palatine community. Robert also served on the Palatine Township Elementary District 15 school board and was a Palatine Jaycee.

Their sons both played football for the Palatine High School Pirates. Pat was a member of the Class of '68 and Andy graduated in 1974.

Charlotte passed away in 1978 at the age of 52 from breast cancer. Robert moved in 1988 to San Francisco, where died in 1992.

Though Andy and his wife moved to Ohio in 1992 and Pat and his wife recently moved to Arizona after 25 years in Long Grove, they said their donation in their parents' names is intended to celebrate the place where they were all together.

"Palatine will always be home," Andy said. "The legacies and traditions remain."
