Woman shot in exchange of gunfire in Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows police are investigating a suspected gang-related exchange of gunfire between passengers in moving vehicles early Sunday morning that left a woman with a bullet wound to the leg.

Police said the shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. along Golf Road, just west of Interstate 90.

According to police, responding officers were told gang members in the two cars began firing at each other after they drove under the I-90 overpass on Golf. Police said one car drove off, while the other one pulled into a parking lot in the 3800 block of Golf Road.

After police were called to the scene, they found a young female passenger with a bullet wound to her leg. She was taken by ambulance to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with a nonlife-threatening injury.

Police said evidence indicates at least five shots were fired during the exchange, and one gun was recovered on the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation, police said, and no charges have been filed.
