Chicago Blackhawks' Kane moving up the charts

We've been so focused on Patrick Kane's point streak most of the season that some fans may not realize the Chicago Blackhawks' superstar also just accomplished two fairly significant feats.

First, he passed Jeremy Roenick, who played for the Hawks from 1988-96, and moved into eighth place in team history on Dec. 3 with his 597th point.

Second, Kane notched his 600th career point during the Hawks' 4-1 win over Nashville on Tuesday at the United Center.

"It's a nice little milestone, for sure," he said. "You want to keep getting better every year, keep achieving certain things like this. It makes the hard work you do a little more special.

"But at the end of the day, I think that's kind of how I'm judged and viewed as a player - how I'm producing points and what kind of scoring chances I'm producing for my team."

Kane hit the number in his 604th game. He needs just 41 points to pass Pit Martin and Dennis Hull to climb into sixth place in team history. If Kane is able to keep producing at a point-per-game clip and doesn't miss a game due to injury, he would pass all-time Blackhawks points leader Stan Mikita near the end of the 2025-26 season, at the age of 37.

Mikita amassed 1,467 points in 1,394 games.

Kane also is on pace for 126 points this season, which would be the most in the NHL since the 1998-99 campaign when Jaromir Jagr had 127. Joe Thornton had 125 in 2005-06.

Other streak remembered:

Patrick Kane, who will take a 23-game point streak into the Hawks' game at Nashville on Thursday, was asked if he ever had another streak like this when he was younger.

He was able to recall one from his OHL days back in 2006-07. Kane said he put together a goal streak that spanned "12 or 13 or 14" straight games, with the record being either 16 or 17.

"I didn't score on whatever game it was … and I think I had like 4 assists," Kane said. "I remember driving home and I was so devastated with myself. I was like crying - even though I had 4 assists (and) we won the game. Just didn't extend the streak."

As for the current streak, he's ready to move on from it.

"Now I'm kind of at the point of, if it ends, it ends," Kane said. "If it's over now, I think it's been a pretty good run."

Votes are in:

We posted a very nonscientific poll on Twitter asking followers of @johndietzdh to vote on where Kane's point streak will end up. At press time the results (with 102 votes) were:

• Streak ends at 23: 11 percent

• Streak gets to 24-26: 36 percent

• Streak gets to 27-30: 26 percent

• Streak hits 31-plus: 27 percent
