Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board members last night quietly reaffirmed an agreement with the federal government over a transgender student's access to a girls locker room after resolving a difference of opinion on its interpretation. The decision to take no further action on the settlement came after another lengthy closed executive session, which followed another two-hour public-comment session - this one in front of about 600 people and including much support for the transgender student and the agreement the district and a federal agency reached to accommodate her. Illinois will start paying lottery winners, mayors and others who have seen their state money delayed for months, leaving colleges, their students and some human services providers to continue waiting for funding as the state continues without a full budget. Police: Man robbed elderly man at Elgin casino

An Elgin man stole money from the hand of an elderly man in a casino, Elgin police said, and he now faces robbery charges. Police responded to the Grand Victoria Casino, 250 S. Grove Ave., on Sunday for a report of a robbery, police said in a news release. Full story.

Man ejected from car, critically injured in crash

A man was critically injured last night after being ejected onto the roadway following a two-vehicle crash, McHenry fire officials said. The crash happened just before 6 p.m. in the 6900 block of Mason Hill Road in an area not far from Boone Creek Country Club in Bull Valley, McHenry Battalion Chief David Harwood said. Full story.

Fox Lake Explorers post temporarily disbanded

The youth Explorer post created and run by disgraced former Fox Lake police officer Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz has been temporarily disbanded because it has been "outrageously mismanaged," authorities said yesterday. At least one parent with a teen in Fox Lake Law Enforcement Explorer Post 300 said she feels let down by end of the program. Full story.

Gasthaus sues Elgin in federal court

The owner of a shuttered downtown Elgin bar has filed another lawsuit against the city - this time in federal court. Marco Muscarello, who owns the former Gasthaus Zur Linde bar, claims the city retaliated and conspired against him and his son Charles Muscarello for speaking up against a plan to redevelop the Elgin Tower Building. After scoring a season-low 10 points in the third quarter, Phoenix exploded for 42 in the fourth and rallied for a stunning 103-101 victory on last night at the United Center.
