Man ejected from car, critically injured in crash

A man was critically injured Monday evening after being ejected onto the roadway following a two-vehicle crash, McHenry fire officials said.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. in the 6900 block of Mason Hill Road in an area not far from Boone Creek Country Club in Bull Valley, McHenry Battalion Chief David Harwood said.

One of the vehicles left the road and struck a tree, ejecting an adult male onto Mason Hill Road, he said.

A Flight for Life transport was called but unable to respond due to the foggy weather, Harwood said. The victim instead was taken to Centegra McHenry hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle signed a waiver refusing medical treatment at the scene, he said.

"I have no idea how the accident happened," Harwood said. "There's no intersections anywhere. It was right by the entrance to Boone Creek Golf Club, but it was not related to the entrance. It just happened to be by it."

Mason Hill Road remained closed for several hours between Cherry Valley and Crystal Lake roads while police investigated.
