Brookfield woman killed in Oak Brook crash

An 86-year-old Brookfield woman was killed Tuesday in Oak Brook when her disabled car was struck from behind by a truck, authorities said.

Police say an initial investigation shows the woman's Ford Escort was in the right lane of eastbound 31st Street near the Tri-State Tollway when a vehicle made a last-minute lane change, leading a GMC Sierra traveling behind that car to strike the disabled vehicle.

Oak Brook police and fire crews arrived about 11:30 a.m., and found the victim to be unresponsive. She was taken to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash, according to a police news release.

The driver of the truck, a 27-year-old Villa Park man, did not have serious injuries, but was taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.

The woman's identity was not immediately released.

The crash was being investigated by the Oak Brook Police Department, Felony Investigative Assistance Team and DuPage County Coroner.
