Barrington welcomes Santa, holiday

Barrington ushered in the holiday season and welcomed Santa Claus to town Saturday with a full day of events at locations across the village, culminating with the lighting of the official holiday tree.

Santa joined Mayor Karen Darch and other community leaders to switch on the lights on the tree downtown, then the jolly old elf stuck around to visit with children.

Earlier in the day, visitors could visit any of four spots in town to celebrate the arrival of the holidays. At the Foundry Shopping Center, there was a petting zoo and free reindeer antlers for kids.

At the Ice House Mall, visitors could see a special holiday dance presentation of The Nutcracker by the Midwest Dance Collective and enjoy milk and cookies with Mrs. Claus.

The Shops on Lageschulte Street hosted Gingerbread Lane and a special sled dog demonstration. And the Village Center offered free carriage rides, cookies and hot cocoa, and performances by The Madrigal Singers, who strolled along Cook Street.
