Probation, jail for South Elgin fight over suspected affair

A 32-year-old woman has been sentenced to periodic imprisonment and two years probation for attacking a woman in her South Elgin home over a suspected affair.

Alma Moore, of the 100 block of Anna Court, South Elgin, pleaded guilty late last month to aggravated battery in a public place, a felony, in exchange for Kane County prosecutors dismissing charges of trespassing and the most severe charge of home invasion, which carries a penalty of six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation, Kane County court records show.

Police said Moore pushed her way through the front door of a home on the 400 block of Carriage Way in South Elgin, striking the 48-year-old woman who lived there.

Moore suspected the woman was cheating with Moore's boyfriend; the woman was not seriously injured and police arrested Moore after she drove off, authorities said.

The plea, accepted by Judge Clint Hull, calls for Moore to pay $3,630 in fines and court costs and serve 108 days of periodic imprisonment at the Kane County jail in addition to her 24 months of probation.

Moore's defense attorney, John McNamara, declined to comment on the case.

If Moore violates her probation, she can be resentenced to anywhere from more probation to up to five years prison.
