Rep. Mussman delivers meals to seniors

With the uncertainty of a state budget affecting vulnerable residents in the community, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, a Democrat from Schaumburg, joined the Kenneth Young Center to deliver meals to seniors who might not otherwise have the capability of getting meals.

"I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the Kenneth Young Center's program and to deliver meals to elderly and disabled members within our community," Mussman said. "Meals on Wheels has done so much for our residents by continuing to provide food to seniors and disabled residents who may not be able to eat a substantial meal if it wasn't for such great volunteers with the program."

"Meals on Wheels" is a volunteer-based program that delivers meals to seniors and disabled residents each day Monday through Friday. Currently, the program is only funded through federal grants due to the state budget impasse. Mussman voted earlier this year to fund the program and ensure that federal dollars designed to pay for the program made its way to local organizations tasked with delivering the meals.

"I am grateful that we have programs such as the Kenneth Young Center and services like Meals on Wheels to take care of our vulnerable elderly and disabled residents in the area," Mussman said. "I also saw the residents' perspective when I asked them questions about the program. They gave me important feedback about the program and about the situation with our state."
