Watch Mt. Prospect move big spruce ahead of tree lighting

A 30-foot-tall Colorado blue spruce donated by the Costello family on the 1300 block of Peachtree Lane will grace Mount Prospect's fifth annual tree-lighting ceremony, which will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at village hall.

The tree was chosen by the public works department from about a dozen offers made in response to an appeal in the village newsletter.

Homer Tree Care donated the equipment and personnel for the harvesting, moving and installation of the tree Thursday morning at 50 S. Emerson St. It will be decorated today with more than 5,000 lights.

"The tree-lighting brings the community together in a warm, festive way," said Mayor Arlene Juracek. "It's a great joy seeing the smiles when the tree lights up."

The Madrigal Singers of Prospect High School, directed by Jennifer Troiano, will provide festive songs, and the Mount Prospect Lions Club will be serving hot cocoa and cookies, many donated by local businesses.

The fourth annual Christkindlmarket will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in village hall's community room.
