No one hurt in Des Plaines retirement home fire
A fire at a Des Plaines retirement home Tuesday was contained to a resident's room on the fourth floor, authorities said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Asbury Court Retirement Community, 1750 Elmhurst Road, at 5:05 p.m. when the building's fire alarm went off, and they called for additional trucks when they learned on the way it was an active fire, according to Fire Chief Alan Wax.
The fire was contained to the room where it started on the fourth floor of the five-story building. Firefighters extinguished the flames within 25 minutes of their arrival, Wax said.
A cause hadn't yet been determined, but officials were still investigating.
There were no injuries reported.
Residents of Asbury Court gathered in the first-floor dining room and activity area as firefighters worked to put out the fire. Residents were able to return to their apartments shortly thereafter, Wax said.
