Collegiate baseball team to play home games in Lisle

A baseball team from the summer collegiate Prospect League will play its home games beginning next year at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.

The wooden bat league is one of more than 50 summer collegiate leagues across the United States and Canada that are designed with an eye toward scouting and developing players with the potential to reach the major leagues.

The new team will be operated by Lisle Baseball Partners, LLC, a sports and entertainment company founded by Attorney Josh Schaub, a former owner and CEO of the Joliet Slammers.

The league will feature 12 teams in six states - Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Lisle team will get its moniker from a Name the Team contest. Fans can visit www.LisleBaseball.com to submit their ideas for a chance to win $500, season tickets or other prizes. Organizers said the team name, colors and logos will be announced at a future event.

The Benedictine sports complex has been the home to at least two other wooden bat summer leagues in the past 10 years. The DuPage Dragons played there for several seasons beginning in 2005 and the DuPage County Hounds followed in 2012.

"The Prospect League is fortunate to have baseball in Lisle once again," Commissioner Bryan Wickline said Thursday in a news release. "When we gain another quality facility like Benedictine University's BenU baseball field, it only adds to the first-class stadiums we have in our league."

Lisle Mayor Joseph Broda said officials anticipate the team "will also attract fans and other visitors to the community, providing a positive economic benefit and a quality of life to the entire village."

Team officials said they're looking for people to work in numerous capacities, from the front office to announcers, to public relations to musicians. Anyone interested is asked to email info@lislebaseball.com.
