Police issue warning after Roselle-area ruse burglary

The Cook County sheriff's office is warning residents to be alert after a ruse burglary occurred Friday in the Roselle area.

A man wearing a beige shirt and green baseball cap introduced himself as a landscaper around 4:30 p.m. to a woman living on the 100 block of West Nerge Road, police said.

The man walked the woman to the backyard of the home and explained the services he could provide. A short time later, he received a phone call, spoke to the caller in a foreign language and left the residence. Later, the woman discovered a safe and other items missing from the home.

Police described the man as 5'7” to 5'8” tall, 170 to 180 pounds with black hair, a thin black mustache and a light brown complexion.

The Cook County sheriff's office urges homeowners to ask workers for identification before letting them into your home. If you aren't expecting workers, call 911 and make note of vehicle information if you see someone suspicious.
