Pier 1 Imports returns to Schaumburg Tuesday

A new Pier 1 Imports store will open Tuesday just north of Schaumburg's Woodfield Mall, following a recent revival trend for furniture and home decor stores.

"Obviously we were disappointed when they left before," Schaumburg Economic Development Manager Matt Frank said of Pier 1. "It was the recession. Money was tight. Now people are starting to reinvest in their homes."

Pier 1 Imports had two stores in Schaumburg before the recession. The one at 170 N. Barrington Road closed in 2008, and the other at 1995 E. Golf Road closed in 2009.

The new, 7,342-square-foot Pier 1 will be at 1522 E. Golf Road, in the Woodfield Village Green shopping center across the street from Woodfield Mall.

Other furniture stores that have returned to the area include Ashley Furniture HomeStore at 905 Perimeter Drive just outside Woodfield Mall, and Art Van Furniture, which is in the process of converting the former Dominick's store at the southwest corner of Higgins and Meacham roads, Frank said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Pier 1 Imports will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
